When taking a school touring to ensure the staff can meet your child’s neurodiverse needs consider the following questions to ask:
- What are the schools policies on inclusion and neurodiversity?
- Do some/all of the staff have special education qualifications?
- Does the school provide ongoing professional development for staff on neurodiversity and inclusive practices?
- What specialist services do you provide eg: Allied Health services?
Observe the classrooms- particularly the one your child is going into and ask the question
- Will my child ‘fit’ here?
- Will they be able to participate successfully in group work, independent work, and teacher-led activities?
- Will their particular needs met?
