This is part 1 of a 2 part series on the infamous Gilles de Rais (pronounced Jill de Ray). He was a wealthy nobleman and warrior who lived in France in the early 1400s. He fought alongside Joan of Arc and helped liberate France from English control. However, there was also a dark side to the man, and in just a few short years, he would go from decorated war hero to being hanged for a long list of crimes that included murdering children.
