Description
Supernatural Season 7, Episode 8, Season Seven, Time for a Wedding! recap π Sam marries super fan Becky Rosen (Emily Perkins) in a Las Vegas chapel, Dean teams up with a brand new hunter named Garth (DJ Qualls), and Leslie Odom Jr. plays a crossroads demon with a creatively ambitious business model, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. (Fun fact: the episode aired on 11/11/11, a popular wedding date that year!)
By popular request, we're telling you what we're drinking again: black cherry White Claws. Then it's on to Vegas, where Dean is spending the boys' annual pilgrimage alone at a strip club, because Sam went off to the desert by himself while hallucinating Lucifer. (Sure, Sam.) Then Dean gets a text: put on a suit, come to the Little White Chapel. Sam is getting married. To Becky. Back in her Delaware hometown, just in time for her high school reunion, Becky has a Wiccan friend named Guy (Leslie Odom Jr.) and a little vial of something she keeps pouring into Sam's champagne.
Episode Highlights:
- Dean telling a grad student waitress he's waiting for his brother to go guano (thanks, Ace Ventura)
- Becky's wedding veil, creepy as hell
- Becky Rosen-Winchester, plus one
- A baseball pitching machine with a mind of its own, and our 53rd blood splooge of the series
- Dean's wedding gift: a waffle iron (it comes in handy)
- Garth's first appearance, and his tri-racial paraplegic sniper cousin
- The CEO's wife (we'll leave it at that)
- Sam's journal discovery: Sam and Becky, Sam and Becky, Sam and Becky...
- A devil's trap made with blueberry vodka
- Crowley's surprise appearance, beard and all
The verdict: Leslie Odom Jr. was fantastic as the snake oil salesman demon, and DJ Qualls nailed Garth. (Fun fact: DJ Qualls initially turned the role down, until he found out it was written with him in mind!) But Becky crossed a line here. This one made us more uncomfortable than Wishful Thinking, and we wish we'd gotten more of the story behind her spiral. Our theory: Becky obsessing over Sam instead of taking care of herself mirrors Dean.
In the lore segment, we dig into the bizarre history of love potions: love cakes baked with sweat, the Roman poet Lucretius supposedly driven mad by his wife's potion, the toxic Spanish fly (neither Spanish nor a fly), Madame de Montespan spiking King Louis XIV's food (he woke up with a headache for 13 years), and MDMA, the so-called love drug, and its return to couples therapy.
"This isn't Wall Street. This is hell. We have a little something called integrity." β Crowley
Your turn, hunters: Is Annie Wilkes, oops, I mean Becky redeemable after this one? And who wants more Garth? Tell us in the Spotify comments, leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts (it's how new hunters find us), or send us fan mail. Bonus points for fandom fun facts we missed.
