World Food Day: South Sudan Faces Growing Challenges from Climate, Conflict and Economic Instability

 "As South Sudan joins the global community in commemorating World Food Day, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is calling for collective efforts to combat food insecurity. The Director General of Food Security, Policy, and Stakeholder Engagement, Jacob Mogga, has pledged the government’s commitment to improving food security by increasing the production of staple crops such as maize, sorghum, and sesame. World Food Program Country Director, Mary-Ellen McGroarty, attributes the food crisis to a combination of factors, including climate change, conflict, and economic instability. Deputy Representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Felix Dzvurumi, emphasizes that long-term food sustainability will be achievable through agriculture-friendly policies that stimulate increased production.
