This story is personal to her as she uses the example of her own family member, explains why those stories break through where the statistics do not, and why we have such a bad record of improving things at the VA. Ashley also points out that while government moved heaven and earth with COVID-19 relief, no such measures where taken for veterans even as COVID-19 protocols prevented their care and slowed their applications for benefits.
