Heard Tell 23FEB22: America's Ukraine Response, Cameras in Classrooms, Arbery, guest Pavel Pfitzner
Published 4 years, 6 months ago
Description
Heard Tell for Wednesday, February 23th, 2022 is turning down the noise and getting to the information we need about how recent history tells us exactly how America will respond to the crisis in Ukraine, how much push back Vladimir Putin will get, and - more importantly - how long America will pay attention at all to overseas affairs. Continuing our coverage of the Ukraine crisis, Pavel Pfitzner of Young Voices joins us to talk about how we got here, the history of Ukraine and Russia that is vital to understanding the situation at hand, what it is Putin wants, who is the target audience for Russia's PR and propaganda campaign, and we try to take a global perspective on the implications of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Pavel also touches on how American media has not only gotten so much of the story wrong or out of context, but how their coverage of it is actively making the situation worse. Also, with so much focus on education and folks upset with what is going on in schools, some have taken to advocating for cameras to be placed in the classrooms. Our friend Bryan O'Nolan has written a piece in Ordinary Times coming out against the practice, and he explains why it would be bad for kids, teachers, parents, and education in general to do so from his experience as a teacher himself. Plus, the verdict to the Ahmaud Arbery hate crime trail is in, we once again will talk about all the implications from not just the two trials, but how the story almost didn't get out to start with, what is and isn't justice, and how we still have a long way to go. We end the program talking about a civil rights martyr you really need to know about, plus much more on this Wednesday edition of Heard Tell
