Heard Tell 25FEB22: Discerning Ukraine News, Leadership, Social Media, Putin, guest Cassandra Shand
Published 4 years, 6 months ago
Description
Heard Tell for Friday, February 25th, 2022 is turning down the noise and getting to the information we need about how to discern the deluge of images, information, and headlines coming out of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. With a full scale propaganda and misinformation effort underway, we talk about how to watch the coverage, what to watch for that might be red flags, and who we should be trusting to give us accurate information in a fast moving situation. We take a moment to compare and contrast the leadership of both countries, how the elected leaders of Ukraine are behaving, what they are saying with they words and telling us with their actions compared to the carefully choreographed "meetings" Vladimir Putin held in the run up to him launching his war of aggression against Ukraine. Returning guest Cassandra Shand of Young Voices reviews our own coverage of Ukraine from her appearance a few weeks ago, what we got right, what we got wrong, and how the situation changed from then until now in the lead up to war in Ukraine. Cassandra also talks about the power dynamics involved not just with Russia and Ukraine, but NATO & Europe, China, India, and the wider world order, and how as bad as the shooting war in Ukraine is right now, there are no good answers and what comes next on the world stage could be even worse. Also on the program, a story of at least one media figure taking accountability and admitting they were wrong, and a great story about a teenager cashing in by not logging on to social media. All that and more on this Friday edition of Heard Tell.
