On this Heard Tell Good Talks, guest Regan Ferrell of Young Voices joins us to cut through the stereotypes, conspiracy theories, and pre-conceived notions over sex work, human trafficking, and the policy and law enforcement thereof. We discuss how law enforcement are quick to infringe on rights and push the boundaries of civil liberties under the banner of "stopping human trafficking" and cracking down on sex work, but the data doesn't back that up, and as Regan discusses this leads to bad policy that further harms and exploits folks already being victimized both in and out of the system. Regan also uses the recent Super Bowl as an example of how the narratives and headlines over sex work and human trafficking for big events like the big game are loud up front to drive attention and funding, but light on actual convictions, rescued victims, and meaningful change.
