In domestic politics, we go to Missouri, and the Show Me States disgraced former governor Eric Greitens efforts to gain a US Senate seat are faltering after new allegations of abuse and mistreatment of others, this time from his ex-wife who has gone on the record in court as part of a custody dispute. We will detail how the latest accusations fit with what brought down Greitens before, and why he is unfit for this or any office going forward. Our guest today for a Good Talks is historian Eric Medlin, who returns to Heard Tell to talk about his recent writing about the proper role of history and historians in the public discourse, and how the public intellectual pursuits can be both a productive place for historians but also one fraught with getting beyond their scope of expertise. Eric uses the war in Ukraine as an example of historical events playing out in real time and how, while history is a great guide to understanding current events, historians that are very online should also avoid things like the prediction business or not taking the whole of history in context just to make a point on social media. Also, Ukrainian President Zelensky sits for an interview with 60 Minutes, and we once again note how he tailors his message to the audience he is addressing, in this case appealing to Americans with language and phrases that fit right into our founding documents and principles.
