Lithium mining is the core resource behind the push for greener technology and especially electric vehicles, but a proposal for the largest lithium mine east of the Mississippi has run into controversy in North Carolina, Alexander Kaufman has a in-depth piece at Huffpost that convers the nuances and entanglements when the buzzwords of green technology hit the very real issues of mining in a community that is skeptical of both the technology and the ecological damage to their area. Our guest Kat Dwyer joins to talk about some examples of how market innovation is brining some creative solutions to environmental problems, and how conservation can benefit from public-private partnerships. Also, Kat goes into detail about how many of the issues raised by newer environmental concerns at their core are really new takes on very old, fundamental issues in America like property rights, land usage, water rights, and government interest versus private holdings.
