Do You Want to Be Truly Wise?
Published 1 year, 7 months ago
Description
Wisdom is to be sought after more than anything else in this life, according to the first reading of the mass today. The gospel puts this principle into live action. A young wealthy man was concerned about reaching eternal life. This is a wise concern. If he sought his existential purpose only in this life, this would be most unwise because we were made not for this world but for the next. We might as well be prepared for it. Then, the gospel specifies Jesus' requirement of selling all he had and give to the poor the proceeds. Then, freed from the bonds of financial possessions, he could follow Our Lord. This decision would have been most wise because when one dies, one does not bring any of his riches to the afterlife. We need to be accompanied by something else. This something else consists of choosing Our Lord and the life He is living. It is most wise to select the goose that lays the golden eggs, instead of the only choosing the golden eggs. We need to find the source of all goodness. With that, we can have any good for the asking!
