Household codes were a longstanding feature of Greco- Roman society. Lee and Jerry discuss the radical change of relationship when the Freeman citizen is replaced at the head of the household by Messiah. As Messiah is both the prime example of authority and submission, so husbands and wives, parents and children, masters and slaves are directed to look to Messiah as they live out their roles under his leadership.
