What is driving the funding drop in European startups
Description
Venture funding for European startups reached $10 billion in the third quarter of 2024, the lowest level since 2020. This represents a 36% decline quarter-over-quarter and a 39% decline year-over-year. Germany recorded growth, with startup funding rising over 33% to $2.4 billion. Overall, venture investment in Europe fluctuated between $12 billion and nearly $17 billion in previous quarters. Late-stage investment fell by over 50% year-over-year, seed funding decreased by 18%, and early-stage funding declined by 12% year-over-year. A potential recovery in funding is possible as the fourth quarter approaches.
