We need to be like little children
Published 3 years, 9 months ago
Description
Today the 9th of August we celebrate in the Catholic Church the memorial of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. Her original name is perhaps more well known. She was Edith Stein before she joined the Carmelites. She died in the second World War in Auschwitz in its dreaded gas chambers. She was captured in Holland where she was moved to by her superiors to hide her from the Nazis. She was a Jew who converted to Catholicism. After the bishops of Holland denounced the evils of Nazism, the Germans retaliated by rounding up the Jewish converts to Catholicism to send them to their concentration camps. And it was to one of these that St. Edith Stein went and died. The Gospel today from Matthew chapter 8 tells us of Our dear Jesus Christ teaching them the answer to their question regarding who was the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. Our Lord got a child and placed him in their midst and declared that one needed to be like this child in order to enter the kingdom of Heaven.
