The Beheading of John the Baptist
Published 3 years, 9 months ago
Description
Some people think that if they eliminate the person who corrects them from an error or malfeasance, they would be off the hook. They forget that it is not the other person who performs his duty to be of assistance to the person weighed down by sin but his very own conscience who condemns him. Herodias thought so. She wanted badly to kill the Baptist but Herod liked to protect him to listen to him. But she got her opportunity when her daughter's dance moves delighted the intoxicated Herod during his birthday party. He vowed to give her whatever she wanted. At her mother's instigation, she asked for John the Baptist's head. And so he lost his head! But the head that should have gotten off its shoulders should have been that of Herod and Herodias, the criminals in the story. It was their consciences that bothered them in the first place.
