We should not be shocked at ourselves when we experience ups and downs in our Christian struggle to be saints. Our individual stories are just like what happened to Israel. The Chosen people also went through a roller coaster of a history in their relationship with Adonai. They would be faithful to His Word and then become unfaithful especially in falling for the idolatry practiced by their neighbors, i.e., other tribes of gentiles. But the Lord was faithful to them, never giving up on them. Of course, He would punish them and they would repent. He'd send them Judges who would bring them back to the fold and help them be faithful. But at the Judge's death, the Israelites relapsed into idolatry. That being our story we should not give up since God is always Mercy to us.
