We need to become a living sacrifice in union with Jesus
Published 2 years, 9 months ago
Description
The readings in the mass today bring us to consider the plight of Jeremiah, who despite working for God was persecuted by the same people who were recipients of the word of God passed on by this prophet. Since the news Jeremiah brought was negative to his listeners, they condemned him. Jeremiah was also called by God to become a sacrifice too for God in this harrowing experience for him. St. Paul in the second reading tells the Roman in his letter to them that they needed to offer their bodies as a living sacrifice too. Jesus scolds St. Peter when he chided our Lord when he announced that He was going to suffer and die. He tells him, "Get behind me Satan." He tells Peter that he does not understand the way of God in this matter. We need to be available to suffer for the Lord.
