Today is the feast of the Evangelist St. Luke, a disciple of St. Paul. St. Luke is the third Evangelist, following Sts. Matthew and Mark. He penned those accounts of more intimacy and details about Our dear Lord's origin, virginal conception, birth, childhood and so forth. He was a practicing physician, much like Sts. Peter and Andrew and James and John were fishermen. They all had to have something solid to earn their keep to support themselves. The account of St. Paul in the first reading of the mass today, taken from St. Paul's second letter to Timothy gives us more ideas regarding how the work of evangelization was going. It was a lot about resources and their distribution to deliver the Church's services to the people.
