The Anniversary of the Erection of Opus Dei as a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church
Published 2 years, 5 months ago
Description
Last 28 November 2023, we celebrated the 41st anniversary of St. Pope John Paul II act of establishing Opus Dei as a Personal Prelature. It ended Opus Dei--The Work of God, in latin--as a secular institute since this last juridical recognition did not exactly fit the charism received by St. Josemaria Escriva on 2 October 1928. To accurately acknowledge that charism an evolution of thought had to happen in the Church regarding vocational callings to serve the Church in a secular manner. So, instead of vows, or what is more commonly known as the evangelical counsels, the nature of the vocational commitment of the faithful of the Personal Prelature had to express this through a contract made between Opus Dei and the person concerned.
