Today's Gospel tells us about Jesus' prayer to His Father that we all be one, as He and His Father are one. Unity is an essential attribute of God. There is only One God. Also, in God there is only one Divine Nature. There are three Persons in one God. Three Persons, not three gods. There can only be one God or one Divine Nature. Jesus prayed that we all be one as they are one. This means we need to be united to God and united among ourselves. Only the one who opts to go against God and His Will, will introduce disunity with God and therefore, disunity among ourselves. Some claim that the truths of religion provide reason for people to fight each other. There is nothing farther from the truth in this. Religious truth does not repel others from one another. There needs to be another element that entered the picture that introduces this violence and disunity, like pride in being religious and there is a lot of condescension on the others who are not.
