Our Lord Jesus Christ comes up today in the Gospel of the mass another imagery that the kingdom of heaven is like. It is like casting a dragnet into the sea catching all kinds of things, like fish, nails, styrofoam, squid, jellyfish, and so forth. When the net fills up, the fishermen bring all that to the shore for sorting. The good items and kept, while the useless and not good items are disposed of. This is what the Lord is inviting us to do to make it to Heaven. We need to actively discern what is good and what is bad, and then follow the first moral principle, which goes like this, “Do good and avoid evil. If we go against this, we commit sin. The Lord encourages us to undertake this process of discernment and consequent action during our lives so that we make it to the kingdom of heaven.
