This is My Beloved Son, Listen to Him
Published 1 year, 9 months ago
Description
The Gospel today narrates the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Thabor because it is commemorated as a feast in the Catholic Church today. We go through this scene at least once a day, if we contemplate or pray the Luminous Mysteries. One of the things we can focus on is that Jesus and company went up a high mountain to be alone by themselves. To be alone at times is also important as a Christian to rest, to pray, to form bonds with friends, etc. Then, Jesus is transfigured. His face shone like the sun and His clothes because so white unseen in this side of the veil. Jesus was assuring His apostles that despite His coming Passion and Death, He was God. He took off His "mask" so to speak to enable them to catch a glimpse of His divinity. He is in command. Lastly, the Blessed Trinity manifested Itself: the Father in the voice, the Son being there at the summit of the mountain, and the Holy Spirit overshadowing them with a cloud. The words the Voice uttered referred to His Son. If we are to be other Christs, this voice is also intended for each of us.
