The Hound of Heaven

The Hound of Heaven

Published 1 year, 8 months ago
Description
This is the eternal invitation of God to all of us in our lives. Parallel to the Gospel narration about the miraculous catch of fish and the subsequent call of the first apostles, God makes us understand that He stands in the midst of our circumstances, work, and relationships. He hounds us to get our attention through qualms of conscience, what grabs our attention in our affairs and in those of the others, in those inspirations and affections He feeds into our minds and hearts as we encounter poverty and imperfection in the world and others. He summons us out of ourselves. He causes in us wonder and fears. He is aptly called the Hound of Heaven. He caused the miraculous catch of fish, gifting those tired brothers from a fruitless night of work. As it happens also to us, it is natural to fear the presence and summons of God because of feelings of unworthiness, shame, sinfulness, and mediocrity. He continually assures us not to fear, but to cast all doubt and indecisiveness to Him, so that we heed His attentive and pleading calls. Let us imitate Simon and his companion fishermen by leaving everything and following Him in our duties of state.
