Our Lord teaches us about the existence of these angels, since today we celebrate the feast of the guardian angels. These splendid creatures are connected to the foundation of Opus Dei, that we celebrate also today. No coincidence really! The Guardian Angel is placed beside us to bring us to Heaven. We need to communicate with him, especially because our souls and hearts are the venue of war. The devil, the world, and the flesh are all eager to bring us to hell. That battle that St. Michael, the Archangel, fought against Satan and his followers was fought and won. But in each of us, we have a battle going on and will only be determined when we die. Our Guardian Angel is supposed to be of assistance in this ongoing battle. We are no match to fight the fallen angel that is the devil. Our guardian angel gives us a fighting chance. But we need to keep in touch with him. We need to grow a relationship with him.
