Season 7 Episode 7
Stop Beating Yourself Up (Advent 7)
“Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid…” from Isaiah 40:1-2
At some point we have to stop beating ourselves up for our past mistakes and misdeeds. At some point we have to stop beating others up for their past mistakes and misdeeds.
Some of us religious folk are like the brother in the story of the Prodigal Son. Sure, we stayed close to home and did all the things we were supposed to do, but secretly we were jealous and resentful of our brothers and sisters and the lives they were leading- never recognizing that we had the better part all along.
Sin comes at a high cost, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and sometimes financially. We have all paid a very high cost for our wrongs.
God has forgiven you. Forgive yourself. Forgive each other. We can’t change the past. Starting today we can create a new future.
