The Gray Line, The Story Behind The Blue Line, is a law enforcement podcast discussing numerous topics. The podcast has four hosts. Benny Cruz, a retired San Diego Sheriff's Detective; David Contreras, a retired San Diego Police Detective Sergeant; Sean Murphy, a retired San Diego Police Lieutenant; and Gonzalo "Chalo" Gerardo, retired Calexico Police Chief. All the episodes start with an introductory video and song. The panel interviews many individuals, such as Prison Wardens, Alex Marentes, Buggs of Borderland Beat, Parole Agents, Hector Bravo of That Guard Podcast, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, DEA agents, former LAPD Rampart Officer Ruben Palomares, and Jay Flores, one of the Chicago Twins that brought down El Cahpo from the Sinaloa Cartel, and many other guests. On July 28th, 2016, San Diego Gang Suppression Team (GST) Officer Jonathan De Guzman and his partner, Officer Wade Irwin, were ambushed by a gang member. The two uniformed gang suppression officers were in their marked patrol car just before 11 pm Thursday when they stopped a person on Acacia Grove Way near 37th Street in Southcrest for reasons that remained unclear Friday afternoon, Zimmerman said in a news conference. The officers called for emergency cover. When nearby officers arrived to help, they found DeGuzman and Irwin shot in the chest and rushed DeGuzman to a hospital in a patrol car. Nearby residents said they heard eight to 10 gunshots, then sirens as scores of police cars converged on the street. GST Officer Jonathan De Guzman died of his injuries. GST Officer Irwin sustained severe injuries and subsequently recovered.
