Season 7 Episode 5
Christ is Coming Today (Advent 5)
“Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.” Mark 13:30
Mark 13:24-37 is a passage many Christians associate with the second coming of Christ. Verse 30 unlocks the meaning of the passage. It declares that very generation hearing these words will see them come to pass.
Rather than thinking of Christ’s return as an event that happens as part of a final apocalypse or revelation, we better understand it as something that happens over and over again in every generation.
Christ returns every time good people from around the world come together to embrace the vision of the human endeavor that Jesus projected.
Christ returns every time a hungry child is fed, a stranger is welcomed, a broken heart is mended. Christ returns every time a life is redeem from hopeless and despair, from exploitation and oppression, from alienation and estrangement.
“Truly, I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.”
