Taurine & the Mitochondrion: Pt. 2

Episode 185 Published 1 year, 4 months ago
Description
We will continue our journey into uncovering the multitude of mitochondrial-boosting benefits of taurine, where I provide "knowledge snacks" from the textbook, "Taurine and the Mitochondrion: Applications in the Pharmacotherapy of Human Diseases."

As we learned from last week's episode, taurine has the following research-backed mitochondrial benefits:
  • decreases mitochondrial-mediated reactive oxygen species formation
  • reduces inflammation and oxidative stress
  • enhances the mitochondrial membrane potential
  • improves mitochondrial respiratory efficiency
  • improves mitochondrial energy metabolism
  • lessens mitochondrial permeabilization
  • mitigates the release of cell death mediators
  • helps sequester excess cytoplasmic calcium

In today's episode, we will review the following topics on taurine and the mitochondria from the aforementioned text book: the cardiovascular system, liver disease, taurine as an anti-aging compound, musculoskeletal disorders, the renal system, the digestive system, the reproductive system and the role of taurine for obesity and improving the quality of adipose tissue.
If you found the information in today's episode particularly interesting and/or compelling, please share it with a family member, friend, colleague and/or anyone that you think could benefit and be illuminated by this knowledge. Sharing is caring :)
