Published 1 year, 9 months ago
Description

A major outage affected tens of thousands of Verizon users on October 1, 2024. Problems began around 10 a.m. when users reported service disruptions on social media and through Down Detector, with a peak of over 100,000 reports. Verizon acknowledged the issue at 11:48 a.m., identifying it as a service disruption affecting some customers. By 5:04 p.m., the company reported progress in restoring service and confirmed that engineers were working on the problem, although the cause remained unspecified. Disruptions occurred from California to Ohio to Florida. Users experienced service only in SOS mode, which allows emergency calls. AT&T users also reported issues, but AT&T denied a nationwide outage, citing effects from the Verizon situation. The FCC has initiated an investigation into the outage.
