Published 1 year, 7 months ago
Description
Aileen Wuornos, a notorious serial killer, was found guilty of murdering six men in Florida during the years 1989 and 1990. Exhibiting atypical sexual behavior in her childhood, she left her home as a teenager and encountered various legal issues by the 1980s, when she was working as a sex worker along Florida's highways. Her series of murders commenced in late November 1989, leading to her being dubbed the Damsel of Death.
Following her arrest in January 1991, Wuornos confessed to seven murders and was subsequently sentenced to death in six of the cases against her. Despite questions surrounding her mental stability, she was executed by lethal injection in October 2002 at the age of 46. Her life and crimes have been the subject of numerous documentaries, books, and an opera, as well as the 2003 film Monster, featuring Charlize Theron, and the more recent 2021 film Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman.
