In a statement released on May 22, 2022, the Gillette police indicated, Evidence gathered during the investigation implies that Irene's disappearance occurred under suspicious circumstances.
The statement further noted that detectives are appealing to the public for any information regarding a gray or silver Subaru Crosstrek with Idaho license plates, which may have been observed trespassing on private property or behaving unusually in rural areas of Campbell County between February 24, 2022, and March 20, 2022.
