Description
Supernatural Season 7, Episode 1, Meet the New Boss recap 👑 It's the season seven premiere! Picking up right where season six left off, Cas is the new God, demanding the boys kneel, smiting hypocrites, and cutting a new deal with Crowley, while Sam's wall is crumbling and the boys try to bind Death himself, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.
First, a shout-out to Toi Lopez on Facebook, our unofficial ambassador, for recommending us every chance she gets. Then it's on to the episode: Bobby is the first to drop to his knees before Godstiel (smart man), Cas calls the boys his former favorite pets, and Sam's nose starts bleeding. While Dean channels everything into fixing up Baby, Cas cleans house in heaven, makes a homophobic preacher choke on his own hypocrisy, and pays a visit to a slightly disheveled Crowley (Mark Sheppard) in a Tennessee trailer. Meanwhile, Sam is hiding some VERY scary hallucinations.
Episode Highlights:
- Phil Sgriccia's rotating camera as Dean repairs Baby upside down
- Cas updating the church's stained glass window with himself, trench coat and all
- A witness describing God as young... and sexy
- Sam's chain-around-the-neck hallucination (we jumped)
- Crowley in slippers, and Bobby and Crowley conspiring (and flirting)
- Cas's skin breaking down, and the hands pushing through his stomach (incredible practical effects)
- Dean bringing Death (Julian Richings) the best fried pickle chips in the state
- Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) showing up in Sam's hallucinations
- Cas making a VERY big mess at the door to Purgatory, and an ending we didn't see coming
The verdict: written by Sera Gamble and directed by Phil Sgriccia, whose Evil Dead-style camera work and horror visuals were so much fun. And Misha Collins basically played three different characters in one episode.
In the lore segment, we dig into the Leviathan, the sea serpent of the Psalms, Job, Isaiah, and the Book of Enoch, and its parallels to Lotan, Tiamat and Marduk, Thor and Jörmungandr, and the seven-headed dragon of Revelation, plus how Thomas Aquinas and Peter Binsfeld made Leviathan the demon of envy, and the Hellmouth of medieval art.
"I'm gonna stuff my pie hole, I'm gonna drink, and I'm gonna watch some Asian cartoon porn, and act like the world's gonna explode, 'cause it is." – Dean Winchester
Your turn, hunters: Why is Sam seeing Mark Pellegrino's Lucifer if Nick never went into the cage? And who else is betting Lucifer helps take down whatever's in Cas?
