Back to EpisodesAkon on 20 Years of Trouble, a Superfan Festival, and His Next Album
Description
Akon joins Kyle Meredith to talk about the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Trouble, and upcoming LP. The R&B star takes us back to his 2004 mindset having just spent time in jail, which made up the bulk of inspiration for the songs on the record, and how musically he was looking toward Michael Jackson and Bob Marley, as well as breaking out of the persona that he became known for. We also hear how he landed up on the sped up Bobby Vinton sample in “Lonely,” helping to popularize auto-tune with T-Pain, and what to expect from his upcoming album. In fact, some of the new material arrives as a counterpoint to his lack of interest in the messages of today’s music scene, and along with the new collection, there’s also a Superfan Festival about to be announced.
