Conquering Anxiety
Description
Morning Mantra: “If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath.”
If you are feeling anxiety, there are a few tools that can help. The first is a grounding tool. Grounding takes your mind away from what is causing your anxiety and onto things you can control, it helps you be present.
Look around you. Find 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste.
Another way to conquer anxiety is a method of breathing called the Square or Box Method. Visual a square (or a box).
1) Breathe in for 4 seconds as you trace the first line across the top of the square in your mind,
2) Hold your breath for 4 counts while you visualize the line going down one side of the square.
3) Breath out for 4 seconds while you visualize the line going across the bottom of the square.
4) Hold your breath for 4 seconds while you visualize the line going up the other side of the square.
Then start again with the line across the top, then down, then across, then up. Do this for as long as it takes for you to feel better. I do it for 3 minutes. It works by distracting your mind as you count to four, calming your nervous system, and decreasing stress in your body.
Anxiety isn’t you, it’s something you learn to move through. Being mindful of where your thoughts go is the way through.
Breathe. Be present. You got this.
