[המשך] הקושי בענין זה מתעורר דוקא אצל המאמין: מכיון שמאמין בנצחיות הנשמה ושכל יסורי הגוף אינם תופסים מקום כלל בערך כל התענוגים בעולם הנשמות, א"כ נשאלת השאלה איזה ערך יש לכל היעודים גשמיים המובטחים בתורה?! והמענה ע"ז הרי הוא (מ"ש לעיל) שכל פרט בעוה"ז הוא חלק מהכוונה הכללית בבריאת כל העולמות כולם, וכאשר עושה מצוה א' בעוה"ז דוקא הנה "יחוד זה למעלה הוא נצחי" עד אין סוף! אבל לפי"ז נמצא שע"י שגופו של יהודי, שהי' יכול לחיות עוד 30-70 שנה, נרצח באוישוויץ, חסרים למעלה עי"ז "יחודים נצחיים" עד אין סוף?! וע"ז אין את ההסברה שאח"כ יהיו לנשמה חיים נצחיים ותענוגים וכו' – שהרי את הנחת תפילין ושאר המצוות נלקחו ממנו?! אלא שהיהודי המאמין בענין ה"יחוד נצחי" שבמצוות לא שואל שאלות; הוא מאמין ש"יש דין" ו"יש דיין". והנה למרות שאצל רובא-דרובא התחזקה האמונה בה' בתקופת המלחמה, הרי אנו מדגישים בתפלה שיהי' "הטוב לנו" ו"טוב הנראה והנגלה" וכו', וזהו מה שבנ"י תובעים ומגיע להם!

[Continued.] The question only arises for someone who does believe. Because he believes in the eternity of the soul and that all the body’s suffering holds no significance compared to all the pleasures in the world of souls, the question arises: what’s the value of all the physical promises described in the Torah?! The answer is that every detail in the world is a part of Hashem’s intention in all of creation, and when one performs a mitzvah specifically in this world, it cause an “eternal union above” that never ends! But if so, it turns out that if a Jew’s body was killed in Auschwitz, depriving him of doing mitzvos for thirty or fifty or seventy years, all those everlasting unions above are lacking?! And here you can’t answer that the soul continues afterwards to live forever and experience tremendous pleasure, because the fact is that he was deprived of those mitzvos?! But a Jew who believes in the eternal unity of the mitzvos doesn’t ask questions; he believes that “there is justice and there is a Judge.” Yet despite the fact that for vast majority of believers, their faith in Hashem became stronger during the war, we constantly stress in davening that it should be “good for us” and with “visible, revealed good” etc., and this is what the Jewish people demand and deserve!
