Yes, a bad performance can be a traumatic experience. It all depends upon the athlete's perspective and experience. If the situation causes intense negative emotions, then there is a good chance trauma will result.

It’s important to understand that a bad performance can be traumatic so that you do not brush it under the rug. The first step towards progress is acceptance. You must be able to admit that the experience had a lasting impact on your mind if you hope to heal.

Also, by understanding that a bad performance has the potential to be traumatic, you can better prepare yourself moving forward.
