To lose face means to lose respect and feel embarrassed because of something you did or failed to do, which harms your reputation.
Examples:
1- President George H.W. Bush lost face when he raised taxes after promising not to, which hurt him in the 1992 election.
2- The politician lost respect and felt embarrassed because they were caught lying during the debate.
