Take the Journey with Me

Season 5 Episode 18

“What we really need is a sustained practice that rewires and transforms our hearts and minds.” - Richard Rohr

A confession of faith is meaningless unless it catalyzes us to live in such a way that we ourselves are transformed.

Paul describes this transformation by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12) Paul’s verb tense suggests that this is an ongoing process for us. Richard Rohr describes it as a sustained process that transforms our hearts and minds.

(In the ancient world the heart and mind were considered more a unity and not a dichotomy as we often think of them today.)

I began consistent daily reflection in 2022. I’ve noticed a profound change slowly taking place within me.

I find myself praying for rude, aggressive and reckless drivers instead of cursing them out under my breath. I’m now far more patient when waiting in line. When someone does something that upsets me, I think about the times I have behaved similarly. I give more generously and sacrificially.

I’m not saying that I have arrived. I most certainly have not. But I am on a journey and it’s amazing. I invite you to take the journey with me, or begin your own parallel journey. The key is consistency. Start small. Be consistent. Transformation is a continuous process.

Peace be with you.
