Classic winning jockey John Gorton chats about his globetrotting days as a jockey and a trainer. In a career spanning over 50 years John’s story begins in his native South Africa where he rode his first winner in 1962 before he moved to Newmarket in 1969, the year he won the Oaks on Sleeping Partner for Lord Rosebery. John went on to win races at Royal Ascot, the Goodwood Cup, Lancashire Oaks and the Falmouth and Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. John later successfully trained horses in South Africa, Australia and China. He is now the Director of Racing at the Royal Sabah Turf Club in Borneo.
