It’s who we are when we get there.

Amos is one of the more interesting figures in the Hebrew Scriptures. In the eyes of the world he was a regular nobody from nowhere. He tended his herds and he tended his trees.

He left that behind, or at least set it aside when he felt called to deliver a sobering message to his larger society. Namely, that they had become unjust and a result they were on the road to destruction.

For doing so, he was severely criticized by the religious and political establishment. “Then Amos answered Amaziah, "I am no prophet, nor a prophet's son; but I am a herdsman, and a dresser of sycamore trees,” Amos 7:14

Nevertheless, God had given him a message to deliver. So who he was and where he came from didn’t matter. What mattered was who he was when he got there.

We can never let where we came from stop us from going where we are intended to go. It’s who we are when we get there that matters.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
