Tim Barnett was a 13-year-old boy who loved karate and playing baseball. In April 2023, Tim's father found him dead from a gunshot wound in the front yard of their home in Sumter, South Carolina. Tim’s mother, Betsy Hauptman, said she found out months later from police that Tim had been the victim of sextortion on Snapchat. Hauptman is now suing the social media platform for over $10 million.
