Supernatural Season 6 Bonus | A Hunter’s Guide to Season 6 (Blu-ray Special Features)
Description
Supernatural Season 6 bonus: A Hunter's Guide to Season 6 📖 Berly and LA dig into all 45-plus clips of the Blu-ray exclusive Hunter's Guide to Season 6, a journal full of behind-the-scenes stories on sets, props, VFX, costumes, music, and more, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. (We skipped this season's anime special features, since we already covered Supernatural: The Animation back in season two!)
Introduced by showrunner Sera Gamble, the guide pairs a short featurette with every episode of season six. We learn the season was designed as a film noir mystery inspired by Chinatown, with human souls as the water everyone's fighting over, that H.P. Lovecraft was originally going to be the season's big story, and that Sam and Dean have basically become Hercules-style demigods. Plus, a lot of love for the cast and crew who make the magic happen.
Episode Highlights:
- Live Free or Twihard's vampire lair was an old bank (THAT'S why there were cages!)
- The pig-skin book from Like a Virgin, and the tuna tongue from You Can't Handle the Truth
- Weekend at Bobby's was written so Jensen could direct, and Jim Beaver taught us the word callipygian (look it up)
- A script note for the new writers' Twilight scene: pretty pussy modern boy vampires
- Serge the Sweetness, the DP everyone reveres, and Ben Edlund's answer to Berly's tweet about why Serge could dodge bullets in The French Mistake: he's bulletproof
- Misha refusing to play a mustache-twirling villain, and the work behind Cas's aggressive finger quotes
- Jared on playing soulless Sam: pure reason and logic, no empathy
- My Heart Will Go On started with Sera wanting a Final Destination episode, and Fate was inspired by Tracy Flick from Election
- Jensen's custom-made cowboy boots for Frontierland (and Robert Singer saying he's never seen Jensen so into a costume)
- Ben Edlund, creator of The Tick, directing with a turquoise and hot pink scrunchie
Our one gripe: hearing the writers say they made Lisa super cool, when she mostly just went along with everything Dean did.
Plus, a lore bonus: the Echidna of Greek mythology, half woman and half snake, mate of Typhon, and the original mother of monsters. (We almost wish we'd covered her for Eve!)
