There's a Decision You Made for Your Dog You've Never Fully Explained to Anyone | Pet Loss

Episode 29 Published 2Β years ago
Description

I made a decision for my dog I still haven't fully explained to anyone, ten years later.

This is part one of my own story, first shared on the tenth anniversary of losing Cajun. Before him there was Vince, my childhood golden retriever, and after him came Izzy and Fiona, two dogs I lost within years of each other. I'm walking through the decline of my first dog when I was 16, adopting Cajun for $200 at a PetSmart adoption event, the brain and spinal surgery that ended my path toward veterinary school, a divorce, and the final months of Cajun's life.

You'll hear:

  • Why my parents made a decision about my first dog that I didn't understand until much later
  • How losing two dogs within years of each other changed how I approached bringing dogs into my home
  • What I actually told the emergency vet in Cajun's final hours, and why

Press play if you've ever had to make an impossible call for your dog and carried the weight of it long after.
