🟠 Representative Matt Gaetz Introduces Bill To Allow Bitcoin Payments On Federal Income Tax. The legislation, if enacted, would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 with language ordering the Treasury secretary to develop a plan for accepting the popular decentralized digital currency.

❗ In December 2010, after PayPal cut off WikiLeaks’ account, the organization turned to Bitcoin for fundraising. This event marked Bitcoin’s first significant exposure to the mainstream. Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin’s anonymous creator, advised WikiLeaks via a Bitcoin Talk post to avoid using Bitcoin, fearing the increased attention could harm the nascent cryptocurrency. In Nakamoto’s second-last post before disappearing, he expressed concern that WikiLeaks’ involvement had provoked unwanted attention, stating, “WikiLeaks has kicked the hornet’s nest, and the swarm is headed towards us,” and wished for recognition in a different context.
