Season 4 Episode 41
Avoid Extremes
“Do not be overrighteous, neither be overwise—why destroy yourself? Do not be overwicked, and do not be a fool— why die before your time? It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes.” - Ecclesiastes 7:16-18
One definition of zealot is a person who is fanatical and uncompromising in pursuit of their religious and or political agenda. Another is a person with strong beliefs about something who tries to make others have them too.
We are not called to be that type of person. We are called to walk through this life with humility and the acknowledgement that our best understanding is partial and incomplete. We are called to follow our consciences while honoring others who believe differently. We are called to seek commonality and mutuality when and where we can.
Honoring God and loving our neighbor leads us away from extremes.
