Description
Supernatural Season 6, Episode 21, Let It Bleed recap 🐙 It's part one of the season six finale! The cold open takes us to Providence, Rhode Island, in 1937, where an invisible something slaughters H.P. Lovecraft himself, and back in the present, Crowley kidnaps Lisa and Ben to keep Dean out of his way, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.
Cas has stolen Moishe Campbell's journal from Bobby's (luckily, Bobby keeps copies), and the trail leads to a 1937 dinner party where Lovecraft and his friends may have opened a door to Purgatory. While Bobby goes undercover to track down the truth, Sam and Dean summon an unbothered Balthazar (Sebastian Roché) for help finding Lisa (Cindy Sampson) and Ben. Meanwhile, Dean is done trusting Cas, and Cas is done listening.
Episode Highlights:
- H.P. Lovecraft's murder, and our 46th blood splooge, right onto his freshly typed pages
- Ben reading Cthulhu tales (nice touch)
- Dean on the phone: jump out the window, Ben!
- Summoning Balthazar, interrupting a drink from the navel of a soprano
- Bobby undercover as a journalist, meeting the world's biggest Lovecraft collector
- The dinner party's last living witness (we adored him)
- Dr. Visyak (Kim Johnston Ulrich) is BACK, with a secret Bobby did not see coming
- Dean to Cas: that's basically the same ransom note your boyfriend gave me
- Balthazar and Sam's own kitchen meet-cute (spoiler alert: he's betting on their team)
- A heartbreaking request from Dean at the hospital
In the lore segment, we dig into H.P. Lovecraft: a ghostwriter who lived in poverty and only became famous after his death, his Cthulhu Mythos stories in Weird Tales, At the Mountains of Madness, The Shadow over Innsmouth, and The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, and how he became the father of cosmic horror (despite his controversial convictions). Plus, South Park's Cthulhu, Cartman's very large pet.
Dean: "Am I supposed to know who that is?"
Bobby: "Horror writer. At the Mountains of Madness, The Call of Cthulhu."
Dean: "Yeah, no, I was too busy having sex with women."
Your turn, hunters: Was Dean right to make his request to Cas? And what do you think happens next with Dr. Visyak? Tell us in the Spotify comments, leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts (it's how new hunters find us), or send us fan mail. Bonus points for fandom fun facts we missed.
