Description
Dr. Bethe Hagens, age 74, an interdisciplinary anthropologist from coastal Maine, invites us into the magic and science of understanding the earth and ourselves. Whether teaching popular culture to college students or studying the planetary grid, Bethe believes in the power of learning through experience. Building hundreds of living scale, geometric models of the earth has given life “whole different meaning.” The planetary grid guided Bethe to the right treatment center for her leukemia, which has made her more aware of a spiritual dimension. Earlier in her life, making replicas of Australian bullroarers helped heal her from Lyme disease. Bethe and her partner are 13 years into creating a quarter-acre experimental forest garden that feeds themselves, along with bees, birds, bugs, butterflies, deer, squirrels, voles and moles. Bethe’s extraordinary, self-designed ‘playhouse’ provides ample space for playing violin, sawing wood, potting plants and writing plays. Not surprisingly Bethe says, “I want to stay alive to see what’s going to happen next.”
"I have insatiable curiosity to go to unfamiliar places, find out what excites me, and go from there." Bethe Hagens
