With sports betting now legal, state health officials are working to combat problem gambling

Season 1 Episode 229 Published 4 years, 2 months ago
Description

Governor John Bel Edwards has proclaimed March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month in Louisiana. The Louisiana Department of Health has doubled-down on their efforts to raise awareness of problem gambling in the wake of sports wagering and mobile sports betting becoming more widely available in the state.

Robert Henson, program manager at the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Behavioral Health, tells us more about potential solutions to problem gambling.

While dying is a part of life we all go through, not many people are directly involved with planning for their own death. While organizing funerals and deciding what to do with the body usually falls to friends and family, an organization in New Orleans is trying to change that.

Liz Dunnebacke, executive director of Wake, a New Orleans-based organization that helps people with deathcare options, joins us to talk about what she describes as a “death positive” approach.
