Episode 158 Published 5 years, 1 month ago
Description
Khyati Y. Joshi joins us for conversation on her new book, ‘White Christian Privilege: The Illusion of Religious Equality in America.’ Khyati Y. Joshi is a Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University and author of ‘New Roots in America’s Sacred Ground: Religion, Race, and Ethnicity in Indian America,’ and co-editor of ‘Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice.’ In ‘White Christian Privilege,’ Joshi traces Christianity’s influence on the American experiment from before the founding of the Republic to the social movements of today. Mapping the way through centuries of slavery, westward expansion, immigration, and citizenship laws, she also reveals the ways Christian privilege in the United States has always been entangled with notions of White supremacy. (from the book’s description at NYU Press, 2020) Theme music "Nigal."
