Sometimes we get caught up in zero sum thinking- the idea that there is only so much to go around. We too often fear that more for someone else means less for me. When we are caught up in this mindset we become selfish and stingy.
This kind of thinking doesn’t make our individual lives better. And it sure doesn’t lead us to creating a better world. The way we make a better life for ourselves and others is by embracing a love our neighbor as ourselves ethos and ethic.
Yes, we start with a healthy center where we love and care for ourselves. We work very hard to make the most of our opportunities and to develop into our best selves.
Paradoxically, we become our best healthiest fullest selves when we keep this same energy and passion for the wellbeing of others that we have for ourselves.
It has to be both/and not either/or.
